Amazing, wonderful, hilarious, cognitive and traditional – these words describe one of the day I experienced during project “Journeys of Sustainability”. Although I live in Latvia (about 220 kilometres from Balvi) it was my first time here and I have to say – it is magnificent place to explore.
This is my favourite day in this week. It was Tuesday, when we had a lot of adventures in Balvi and the smallest and nearest county in this area called Briežciems.
It was interesting to see singing ladies in their national costumes, because every region (Latgale, Kurzeme, Vidzeme and Zemgale) here in Latvia has their own national costumes and they are very proud of them. We were dancing, singing, playing traditional games, drinking the beer and eating cheese which was made by local farmer. For me it was realy exciting to see other reactions and emotions of people coming from different countries.
In the end of this long, but beautiful, day we went to the concert held by local people who take part in folk dancing and singing in local culture centre. It was very beautiful and emotional – there was laughter, smiles and even tears of joy.
I would advise everyone to go to this region and see the beautiful nature, nice people and to experience adventures here!
